The Problem:
With more and more people suffering from
allergies and a growing susceptibility to infections,
ActiBreeze® technology promises to provide RELIEF. According to the latest
scientific findings, the main pathogens responsible for causing diseases are not
only of biological origin (viruses, bacteria, mold, mites), but also so-called indoor
poisons and unpleasant odors. Frequently, they are the root cause for the “sick-building
syndrome” whose symptoms range from tiredness and loss of concentration to headaches,
nausea, shortness of breath and depression.
As a result of modern construction techniques
our rooms have become almost entirely hermetically sealed and sound insulated -
buzzwords here are noise abatement and energy conservation. Insufficient natural
ventilation of rooms is often replaced by air-conditioning systems so that windows
are not opened. Additionally, new materials used for refurbishment and novel practices
for processing them often inject substances detrimental to health into the air.
Given the lack of air circulation within the room, these pollutants can have an
adverse impact on its inhabitants over days if not years.
The most frequently encountered pollutants
include formaldehyde, chlorinated hydrocarbons and cigarette smoke. Such disease-inducing
substances are released from numerous interior design materials such as treated
timber, PVC flooring or other engineering plastics.

The
Solution:
ActiBreeze®
is capable of breaking up pollutants and unpleasant odors such as cigarette smoke,
formaldehyde, pet odors, cooking odors and the like into their harmless basic components,
namely carbon dioxide and water vapor, upon contact. The result of intense research
efforts, ActiBreeze®
is a photo-catalytic process that works in the simplest way
imaginable but differs from all other processes primarily because its space-air
improving effect cannot be washed out, does not affect the soft feel of the fabric
and its truly broad-range effect makes for “multi-pathogen” deactivation.

How Does ActiBreeze® Work?
|
|
As soon as light shines on the fabric, a medium
built into the yarn fiber releases an electrical impulse supplying the energy required
for the chemical breaking of pollutants and odorous substances. Whether this light
is real daylight or artificial light makes no difference here. Upon contact with
the fabric, detrimental substances are broken up into their harmless components
such as water vapor and carbon dioxide.
In laymen’s terms… let’s take the odor of cooked
fish. We all know how long that can hang around the house. When the fish odor makes
contact with any ActiBreeze®
fabric, the fabric actively breaks the odors up into
carbon dioxide and water vapor. These components can now naturally evaporate into
the atmosphere without any harmful by-products, to us or the environment. The best
part is, any kind of light, residential, commercial grade, or sun light activates
this process.
For use in public spaces these fabrics are additionally
fitted with flame-retardant properties. This makes sense since the ActiBreeze® line
is the ideal textile choice for furnishing public buildings; be it in hospitals,
institutions, nursing homes, hotels, offices or schools.

Despite regular cleaning, detrimental bacteria (i.e.
staph infections) often stick to fibers, multiply in no time and can cause infectious
diseases or allergies when coming into contact with the skin.
BioProtect® finds a remedy for this by selectively destroying pathogens upon
contact before these can spread across the fabric. This special protective property
makes fabrics finished with BioProtect® ideal not only for private housing, but especially
for hospitals, nursing homes, hotels and public waiting zones, especially where
so-called “secondary infections” appear quite frequently. Curtains and decorative
furnishings made with BioProtect reduce this risk substantially.

The Way BioProtect® works:
The anti-bacterial protective effect of BioProtect®
is based on silver
ions that are built into the fiber during yarn production.
As the bacteria come into contact with the silver ions, the bacteria absorbs the
silver and then dissolves them from the inside out. This helps stop production of
new bacteria keeping the environment that the fabric is in cleaner and healthier.

A comparison clearly shows: conventional
fibers (left) offer micro-organisms good conditions for settling and multiplying.
BioProtect®
fibers, however, prevent this bacterial settling due to the integral
silver ions. And where bacteria cannot settle, in cannot multiply.
